Marina Liu is a human bean who happens to do product design. She’s based in Los Angeles, having been lured by the mesquite grilling of parking lot tacos.
Ready for a tense change? I care about using design to help underrepresented communities, collaborating with real people, and leading by example. Outside of the 9-5 you can find me dabbling in street photography, trying a new craft, or recommending a tasty restaurant to you. My music tastes are unpredictable and I laugh a lot, but I mean no harm. I’m just happy to be here. Here’s what I’ve done in the last 10+ years:
Feb 2020 - Sep 2023
Principal Product Designer
Designed for home buyers and real estate agents to make homeownership more accessible — I did a little bit of everything, but primarily collaborated with leadership on 0-1 projects spanning from consumer or B2B2C experiences to internal tooling.
Oct 2017 - Jun 2019
Product Design Lead
Designed for truck drivers and ops teams — Led design on the Carrier Experience team, and the Operations Experience team before that. I facilitated workshops, conducted UX research, wrote UX copy, and mentored team members.
Sep 2015 - Oct 2017
Senior Product Designer
Designed for Uber drivers with a focus on earnings — Worked on growth experiments in the driver app, then designed Instant Pay and built out an earnings platform for Uber drivers.
Jun 2012 - Sep 2015
UX Designer
Designed for millions of everyday shoppers — Worked with the Labs team creating social and in-store shopping experiences, helped design Walmart’s first responsive website, then became the sole designer of the Walmart iOS apps.
2008, 2009
Photography & Graphic Design Intern
Spent 2 summers photographing shiny rims — Shot, processed, and edited all product inventory. Illustrated technical drawings for installation instruction manuals, prototyped product packaging concepts, and standardized post-production processes.
